If so, the BFI Film Academy is for you. This course offers you the chance to be part of our future film industry.
There will be over 40 different courses running between September 2018 and March 2019 across the UK so wherever you live — be it Birmingham or Belfast, Dagenham or Durham — you will have the opportunity to gain the essential skills to enter the film industry.
As a student of the Film Academy:
  • You will get hands-on film-making experience which will help you to develop practical knowledge and skills
  • You can explore your own creativity and passions in a supportive and dynamic environment
  • You will gain invaluable experience working alongside industry professionals who are respected practitioners in their field
  • You will watch a range of cinema from British independent to specialised films
  • You will work in teams towards a practical film-based project
Once you have completed the Network course, you will become part of the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to opportunities such as BAFTA mentor-ships. You will also have the opportunity to complete a qualification on the course.
Courses cost £25. If you are unable to pay the full course fee, don’t let this discourage you from applying as costs may be waived. Bursaries for travel and childcare are also available if you require assistance with these costs. More information about who can apply for bursaries contact the course provider in your area via the table below.
In order to apply for any BFI Film Academy course, you must:
  • Be aged 16-19 year olds on the first day of the course.
  • Be a UK resident.
  • Have a passion or talent for film-making and an ambition to work in the film industry.
  • Be able to commit to the duration of the course.
  • Not currently be at university or enrolled at university when the course starts.
Take a look at some of the great short films made by previous participants at the BFI Film Academy on YouTube.
What’s more, you could also apply for one of our seven intensive residential programmes. Courses last between one and two weeks and are designed to develop more specialist film-making skills. You will work closely with leading industry professionals who will give you a unique insight into the film-making business and guide you along the way.

Oxford School Shorts 2018

Dear All,

Submissions are now open for Oxford School Shorts 2018, a new competition for students in Oxfordshire. Winners will have a screening of their moving image work shown at Modern Art Oxford in early February of next year - selected by a judging panel of Ruskin Students.
Oxford School Shorts has decided to change the two film limit for this years entry and make it open to all students. Therefore we hope to encourage more students to take part.

This is an opportunity for all schools in Oxford to get involved in creating video art and show their work in a internationally renowned art institution. We are excited to see all types of film and open to all ideas, however we would like to stress we are NOT looking for documentary-based works

We want your students to be innovative, creative and experimental in their film making, showing their enthusiasm for art. This means we aren't looking for a highly polished professional art film, as we want to give students the opportunity to explore an area of art that they might not have previously experimented with before. Collaborative films are allowed.
In Summary
Eligibility: Application is open to current Oxfordshire year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students.
Submission Guidelines:
Type: Moving Image
Duration: 4 min (max)

Expressions of interest should be sent to the email address: oxfordschoolshorts.rsa@gmail.com. The deadline for expressions of interest will be extended to 7th November 2017.
Once you have registered your interest, we will contact you with a link to our Dropbox account and an information pack for your students.
The submissions deadline to the Dropbox account will be 6th January 2018.

We welcome any questions and would appreciate your reply as soon as possible.
We hope to hear from you soon!
All the Best
